Tell the IOC to Play Fair!
Request that the IOC take immediate action to address the violation of workers' rights in their supply chains.
The Beijing Olympics may be THE most profitable Olympics in the Games' history. Meanwhile the workers that actually make the goods that bear the Olympic logo aren't profiting at all. Research
into conditions at factories producing Olympic-licensed products turned
up many very serious rights violations. We don't think that's fair. Do you agree
that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) needs to take responsibility
for the conditions where their products are produced? Then let them know!
Send the letter below to IOC President Jacques Rogge. Let him know that you
think the IOC should take responsibility for the unchecked violation of workers'
rights in Olympic supply chains. Encourage him to engage in a dialogue with
PlayFair 2008 to follow up on the constructive solutions they've proposed to
address the problems in Olympic workplaces. IOC action on this serious issue
is long overdue!
You can use this form to fax the following letter
directly to Mr. Rogge
Dear Mr. Rogge,
I am writing you to express my deep concern over violations of worker's rights
relating to the Olympic Games, and in particular relating to the production
of Olympics-related merchandise. I support the work of the PlayFair 2008 campaign,
and I would like to encourage you to give this pressing issue the attention
it deserves.
PlayFair 2008 has shared with you the findings of research into conditions
in Olympic supply chains. These findings, which document a range of serious
rights violations, are disturbing. Such maltreatment and exploitation of workers
violates internationally-accepted standards, is contrary to the Olympic ideals
of ethics and fair play, and also seriously undermines the reputation of the
Olympics movement.
I would like to express my strong support for the practical and realistic
proposals put to the IOC by PlayFair 2008. In particular, I urge the IOC to
work with PlayFair 2008 to put these proposals into practice. I believe that
the IOC has both the authority and the responsibility to play its part in
ending abusive practices against workers in global sports merchandise production.
Sincerely,
|
